Anthony Bierman

Anthony Bierman is a crossover guitarist and teacher from South Africa.

I started my study of the guitar in my home town of Pretoria, studying a Honours Degree in Music at the University of Pretoria, later, around Johannesburg giving lessons while frantically trying to complete a Masters at the University of Witwatersrand. Researching a harmonic style of 8-string Guitar. A video clip to the left of myself as a younger man back in Johannesburg, trying my very best to play on a complicated instrument at my masters recital.

After working for many years in South Africa as a musician and freelance teacher, I then immigrated to the Dutch Caribbean island of Bonaire. There I spent three years building a private guitar school and engaging in the island’s musical scene. Studying some Latin and Antillean Classical music, playing with local and international musicians that have since become good friends, and busking for the cruise ships that came to port in season.

I have since made another leap to Europe, currently based in Maastricht, where I have continued my study of the guitar in a more classical direction. Teaching both online and locally, starting a personal project of musically documenting towns, peoples and cultures in both surrounding Europe and my home country of South Africa.
